The court in Botswana has dropped charges against former President Ian Khama, in a surprise move following his self-imposed exile in South Africa.

Khama has appeared in court in Gaborone to face several charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and money laundering.

Former Botswana President Ian Khama will be back in court later this month.

He had applied for the court to set aside the warrants of arrest against him.

Khama had blamed his successor President Mokweetsi Masisi for all the troubles that forced him to flee to South Africa.

Masisi denied the accusations.

This comes as Botswana is gearing up to have elections next month and incumbent President Masisi is seeking re-election in what is billed to be the heavily contested polls.
