Court to decide on VIP security officers’ bail application

Eight police officers accused of assaulting three people on the N1 highway in Johannesburg earlier this month will find out on Tuesday whether they will be granted bail or not.

The officers, who are part of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s bodyguards, will appear again in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court north of Johannesburg.

They face several charges including pointing a firearm, assault with intent to do grievously bodily harm, reckless and negligent driving and attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

The assault incident was captured on camera by a motorist.
