Political Analyst Levy Ndou has warned that the MK Party’s current trajectory could lead to instability within the party.

Ndou says the decisions are unilaterally those of its leader, Jacob Zuma.

The MK Party has not held an elective conference and only has an interim leadership structure in place.

Despite this, the party earlier this year expelled its founder Jabulani Khumalo and more members recently, including its Secretary-General Arthur Zwane.

In a move that shocked many, the party also replaced 18 of its 58 MPs in the last few days.

Ndou attributes this to the lack of leadership in the year-old party.

“Their main focus was to ensure that they participate in the elections. They only have the former President Jacob Zuma and a few people that are part of the interim leadership of the MK. They have not gone to conferences to elect leadership, so when it comes to decision-making, former president Jacob Zuma appears to be the one who is in charge of decision-making. It appears as if there is little or no consultation that is done because there is no elected leadership. In the main, former president Jacob Zuma is responsible for decision making.”
