‘DA in Gauteng satisfied with the election result’

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says it believes that it could have done much better in the province, should the voter turnout not have dropped so drastically.

With 100% of the votes in the province having been captured, the DA came in second – garnering 27% of the vote.

This follows the African National Congress’ (ANC) 35%, a significant decline from the 2019 provincial elections.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) came in at number three, with 13% of the vote, followed by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) at number four – with 10% of voters support.

The DA’s Gauteng chairperson, Fred Nel expressed the satisfaction with the election result.

“The DA in Gauteng is satisfied with the election result and performance in the election in Gauteng. Obviously any political party would have wanted to get more votes, but given the fact that the voter turnout dropped by more than 13% the ability for the DA to retain it’s votes that it garnered in 2019 shows that the party is solid and very reliable and it’s increase in it’s share of the national ballot is also a positive sign for the party in the province so the DA in Gauteng welcomes the new political dispensation and we believe that we have established a solid foundation for growth in the future.”

Meanwhile, ActionSA in Gauteng say’s they will have to go back to the drawing board, after they failed to meet their expectations in the provincial ballot.

The party came in at fifth place in the province, garnering 4% of the vote.

ActionSA’s Gauteng Premier Candidate, Funzi Ngobeni, says he is disappointed with their results.

“As ActionSA in the province we would have wanted to do better in the province than what we did in this elections. At least we would have wanted to retain the votes that we got in 2021 local government elections especially in the metro’s. But that didn’t happen so that means we have to go back to the drawing board and look at where we went wrong and together with our structures and the leadership of the party to do an introspection,” said Ngobeni.
