The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) says their councillors are trusted by voters following the party’s good results in yesterday’s by-elections.

The party won five wards.

It was contesting three in Ethekwini Municipality, one in the Umdoni Local Municipality on the south coast and one in the KwaDukuza Local Municipality.

The uMkhonto weSizwe party snatched a ward away from the African National Congress (ANC) in the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality, while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained its ward in the Nkandla Local Municipality.

DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers says his party is showing growth.

“The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal is delighted with yesterday’s by-election results. Of huge success was the eThekwini Ward 33 by-election, where the support for the DA went from 39 to 80%, and Ward 35, where we went from 80 to 91%.

In the Kwadukuza by-election, we got over 98%, as we did in Mdoni. This just once again shows us that our ward councillors, voters trust them. They trust them to hold the municipality to account and to fight for service delivery. And this all bodes very well for 2026, when particularly in eThekwini we need a change of government and a government that’s led by the DA.”
