Digital skills programme launched for municipalities

Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi says about R50-million will be utilised in the first phase of the digital skills programme to capacitate municipal councillors and managers.

Malatsi has officially launched the Broadband Digital Skills Programme for Municipalities in Polokwane, Limpopo.

He says councillors need digital skills to do their work efficiently.

“Some of this councillors do not have necessary digital skills that allow them to do their work efficiently so we have partnered with UK (United Kingdom) government in this programme and SALGA (South African Local Government Association) to capacitate local councillors and also municipal managers so that they can adjust to the demand of the technology. We are targeting all municipalities, there is a need in all municipalities, the finances are around R50-million.”
