The South African Weather Services says a drop in temperature is expected in KwaZulu-Natal from this afternoon as snow is expected in the Drakensberg.

This comes as snowfall of up to ten centimetres is expected in high-lying areas of the Western Cape after a severe cold front made landfall in the province yesterday bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain.

Forecaster Ayanda Nsele says there’s a warning of strong winds in KwaZulu-Natal today which will be followed by 60% of showers and thundershowers tonight.

“From tonight, we are expecting 30 to 60% showers in rain over the southern parts of the province and tomorrow, the rain will be spreading across the province. We are expecting a significant drop in temperatures like cold and very cold especially over the Western parts – we are also expecting snow over the south western part of KZN like the Drakensberg, Kokstad, Underberg and Giant’s Castle.”

Western Cape: Winter storm moves inland

The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre says the winter storm that made landfall yesterday afternoon, has moved further inland.

This follows heavy rainfall in large parts of the province last night, measuring 69-point-two milimetres in some parts of the province.

Spokesperson, James Styan says very cold stormy conditions and strong seas are predicted across the province for tomorrow.

“We are reminding people that a very cold weather continues, a very strong wind can be expected as well. I want to caution people about the cold in particular and urge people to remain sheltered as much as possible. The emergency responders and disaster centres across the province are on full alert at the moment to assist with any emergency. All vaccination centres also remain open and fully operational.”
