Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says his party aims to run all municipalities and prioritise basic services to residents across the country. The EFF is launching its Local Government Elections manifesto at Gandhi Square in the Johannesburg CBD.

He says corruption has deprived residents of basic services. Malema says rural areas have been neglected.

“EFF municipalities will not stand by and do nothing about sanitation and toilets in schools because education in schools are functions of national and provincials level. There will never be pit-toilets in schools that fall under an EFF municipality. This manifesto we present to you today is a product of several consultations and engagements with different sectors of society,” says Malema.

Malema says the COVID-19 pandemic has put a strain on campaigning for the November 1 elections.

H says despite the pandemic, they are forging ahead with their political obligations.

“We meet under difficult circumstances and conditions of a pandemic that has caused so much damage to many peoples lives and livelihoods all over the world. Despite the damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic, we carry a revolutionary obligation to keep fighting for the total emancipation of all our people,” says Malema.
