The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Free State has approached the office of the Public Protector to investigate the alleged awarding of a tender to Kagiso Shanduka Trust to improve schools infrastructure in the province.
The partnership was between the Free State Department of Education and Kagiso Shanduka Trust.
The Education Department in the province has since maintained that the relationship it has with the trust has always been a non-profit partnership.
But the EFF wants transparency on how the millions were spent.
EFF Free State Secretary, Bosanku Msimanga, says more details will be revealed during their media briefing on Monday.
“There are so many versions around the issue of Shanduka Kagiso Trust where the former premier of Free State, the Secretary-General of ANC (African National Congress), keep on saying there was a contravention of section 217 of the Constitution. When appointing Kagiso Shanduka Trust and there is another version of the Department of Education saying everything is above board, saying there is nothing untoward about that,” says Msimanga.
