Independent energy expert Adil Nchabeleng says Eskom should be praised for the work they’re doing after achieving 100 consecutive days without load shedding.

Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa yesterday briefed the media on Eskom’s distribution and generation performance.

Nchabeleng says although there’s still a lot to be done by Eskom, this achievement should be celebrated.

“We said it long ago that all you needed to do is bring the EAF, which is the electricity availability factor higher and push it above 65 and you’ll have stable operational network in terms of power generation. The problem of load shedding was sitting at power plants, it was never any other issue. Now that power plants are being brought back into operation and are perfectly operating, we are now seeing an improved and a stable electricity supply. We hope and we encourage Eskom workers, Eskom executive as well as the board and the ministers to make sure that they continue the sterling performance that has been done so far.”

Meanwhile, Ramokgopa has emphasised the need to effectively manage energy distribution in South Africa, to tackle the issue of ongoing load reduction.

Despite the suspension of load shedding, some communities continue to experience power cuts, often implemented by local authorities, to avoid network over-loading.
