The family of former Mineral Resources and Energy Deputy Minister Bavelile Hlongwa who was killed in a road crash in 2019 say they want justice and closure.

Yesterday, the Temba Magistrate’s Court postponed the trial of Hendrick Brits to November 7.

He is accused of culpable homicide and reckless driving.

The truck Brits was driving was involved in a crash in September 2019 near Carousel Casino Resort on the N1 in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.

Hlongwa and three other people died in the collision.

Hlongwa’s sister Lungisile says, “Emotionally, it is draining and physically as well because every time when there is a trial we have to drive to Hammanskraal to attend the case and it is us who are carrying the cost of driving every time when there is a trial.”

“I don’t want to lie, it is still painful even today, especially today (Tuesday) when they were describing how Bavelile passed on, it is still painful. What we wish as a family is that Bavelile could find justice and those she died with.”
