Fatal crash in Eastern Cape claims lives of two municipal workers

Two Chris Hani District Municipality employees have died while one sustained injuries after a fatal crash between Elliot and Cala in the Eastern Cape.

The employees were on their way home from Sakhisizwe Local Municipality where they were doing assessments following gale-force winds that caused major damage to the area this past week.

Municipality spokesperson Bulelwa Ganyaza says the third employee who was rushed to hospital is currently in a stable condition.

“The Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani expressed his shock at the untimely deaths. This sad and tragic incident has caused us great pain as the entire district municipality. We are deeply shocked by the loss of lives of our very own, this really cuts deep. The two employees were part of our essential service workers and rendered a very critical service to the entire district municipality. They have served CHDM diligently and even sacrificed their lives in the most disastrous situations rescuing communities.”
