The Freedom Front Plus has accused the DA of trying to collapse coalition governments in the Western Cape.

The FFPlus says Langeberg is the latest casualty.

The two parties had formed a coalition in the municipality following the 2021 local government elections. However, the DA has accused the FFPlus of refusing to support the coalition’s budget earlier this year.

FFPlus leader in the Western Cape, Dr Corne Mulder, says, “Somehow, the Democratic Alliance, in a very irrational and emotional way, has now decided to start to collapse some coalition governments in the Western Cape. They first did this in George then the Garden Route District council then Oudtshoorn and now in Langaberg as well.”

Mulder has slated the decision as not being in the best interest of the residents.

“That is, clearly not in the best interests of the residents of these municipalities. The Freedom Front Plus will continue to play our role in a constructive and positive manner to serve the residents of these municipalities to the best of our ability. In that way, we’ve already formed the government of local unity in Oudtshoorn and we invited the Democratic Alliance to participate in that, but they decided not to do so,” says Mulder.
