First Cabinet Lekgotla of GNU gets under way in Pretoria

The first Cabinet Lekgotla of the Government of National Unity (GNU) gets under way at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria on Saturday.

The two-day meeting brings together ministers and their deputies, premiers, directors-general and representatives from the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

For the first time since 1994, the executive comprises representatives from 11 political parties.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says members of the GNU are hard at work to better the lives of South Africans. Ramaphosa spoke to SABC News about the readiness of the Lekgotla.

“The GNU is up and alive and working. We are working very hard and people are contributing everyone is talking. So it’s great it’s a good start to the GNU.”

The new cabinet, composed under the National Government of Unity (GNU) consists of a total of 32 ministers and 43 deputy ministers.
