Parents from Fleurhof in Johannesburg have marched to the Johannesburg West District offices in Florida. The parents say their children have been placed at far away schools.

They are demanding that their children be placed at Florida Park High School instead of Die Burger Secondary School in Florida which they say is about 17-kilometres away from their homes.

Community leader Lauri Richards says parents have raised the issue of affordability as they would have to pay for transport, as well as the safety of their children.

“So, we’re going to march again to Florida Park High. We were peaceful today and tomorrow I don’t think it’s going to be as peaceful because our children deserve to be in this school. There are children in this school who have been accepted and they are from other areas. Why are our children not being accepted when they live in the area, they live in the ward and they are not being accepted into a school that is in our ward. “
