Political analysts Nkosikhulule Nyembezi and Ebrahim Harvey say the resignation of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s Deputy President Floyd Shivambu, who will be joining the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party is a dramatic moment in the history of the EFF.

Shivambu resigned from all his positions and duties in the party to join the MK Party. Shivambhu announced this during a media briefing in Johannesburg.

The analysts say the party’s performance in the elections had everything to do with Shivambu’s departure.

Shivambhu has been the party president since its founding in 2013.

Mzwanele Manyi has also resigned and is expected to join the party.

Shivambu says that he will actively serve in the MK Party and shape the direction and the politics of the party.

“There is no specific position that has been assigned to me. There’s no commitment or any promise of deployment to parliament or anything. It’s a decision that I have taken and I think and believe it will add meaningful value to the progressive and revolutionary politics that must be pursued by all the progressive forces in South Africa.”

Economic Freedom Fighters Julius Malema said Shivambu is more than welcome to return to the party should he wish to.
