The Free State Department of Education says it has committed to immediately implement cost-containment measures designed to ensure that no educator loses their job.

This follows the recent announcement regarding budget cuts by the National Department of Basic Education.

Provincial department spokesperson Howard Ndaba says they will prioritise the education of learners while ensuring that the livelihoods of educators are protected.

He says they will minimise avoidable expenses such as non-essential travel, conferences and other administrative expenditure.

Gwarube says seven provinces will not be able to cover their annual expenses in the next four years, unless measures are proactively taken to mitigate this risk.
