The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Free State says it is disappointed that the provincial government attempted to interdict the Lemo Cultural Festival due to take place next month.

Last week, the Free State High Court dismissed with costs the application by the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport to interdict the annual Lemo Cultural Festival.

The department wanted the structure that businessman Freddy Kenny is currently building next to the Lemo Mall in Mangaung to be demolished.

Spokesperson Bosanku Msimanga says the EFF has been calling on the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture to protect Macufe, Bloemfontein Celtics and Free State stars since they were bringing economic opportunities to the province.

“The least government should do is to create an enabling environment for people of Free State to benefit out of economic spinoffs that come with Lemo Festival since the government failed to organise Macufe. We really and sincerely like to thank Mr Kenny Freddy for keeping the fire burning because people of South Africa and the province know that this festive season belongs to the people of Free State.”
