Free State Provincial Government is urging all residents to exercise extreme caution, as a severe cold front is expected to bring snow and strong winds across the province.
The South African Weather Service has warned of a light snow expected over the Drakensberg from today with a significant drop in temperatures.
Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae has appealed to the community to stay alert and take precautionary measures.
Provincial Acting Head of Communication Setjhaba Maphalla says a disaster management team has been activated.
“The Premier through the department of Cogta has activated the provincial disaster management team which is now on high alert and is ready to respond to any emergencies and any eventualities. The provincial disaster management team is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide any assistance to the affected communities,” says Maphalla.
The South African Weather Service has meanwhile released a Yellow Level 2 alert for inclement weather in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.
