A Gauteng nurse, Sithembile Xulu, is expected to appear in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court, south of Johannesburg, for a bail application.

Xulu (48), along with her gardener, Simon Mgale, is charged with the murder of 21-year-old domestic worker, Busiswa Nxumalo.

Xulu, who works at a clinic in Alberton, was arrested at her home in Vosloorus.

Police suspect she orchestrated Nxumalo’s murder to benefit from three life insurance policies worth a total of R6 million taken out in Nxumalo’s name. The insurance companies had frozen the disbursements on suspicion of fraud.

Nxumalo’s body was found stabbed to death in January 2022 at a dump site near Xulu’s previous residence in Lenasia  South.
