George Municipality in the Western Cape says it is still working to restore power after outages were caused by this week’s storms in the region.

While power to some areas has been restored, other areas are still without electricity.

Yesterday, heavy winds and rain in the area caused widespread blackouts, damaged electrical lines and uprooted trees.

The municipality says teams have been dispatched to the affected areas and are working on getting the power restored.

Meanwhile, several roads in and around Cape Town remain closed due to the floods and obstructions caused by the heavy downpours and gale-force winds.

Spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s traffic service Maxine Bezuidenhout says Chapman’s Peak and Clarence Drive remains closed to the public and sand has been cleared on Baden Powell Drive. She says in Simon’s Town, in the vicinity of Miller’s Point, a stop-go system is in place following a mudslide yesterday.

” Traffic officers are still managing the impacts of flooding and obstructions on numerous roadways around the city. Various traffic signals have been affected. Traffic officers are conducting point duty during peak hours. During off peak, and until the problems are resolved, motorists are advised to please treat affected intersections as four-way stops.”
