Gordhan given 30 days on Mango Airlines sale

The High Court in Pretoria has ordered the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan to make a decision regarding the Mango Airlines sale within the next 30 days following the issuance of the judgment.  

However, the department says it has applied for a leave to appeal the court’s decision.

Public Enterprises spokeperson, Ellis Mnyandu says the department’s focus is ensuring that the Mango Airlines’ business rescue process follows proper legal procedures and ultimately benefits the country.  

“The Department of Public Enterprises has applied for leave to appeal the judgment and order that was handed down by the Pretoria high court earlier last month. The application for leave to appeal is consistent with the legal advice that the DPE  has received on the case. The intention of the application is to ensure that all aspects of mango’s business rescue process are transparent, legally signed and in the best interest of the South African public. This application is not an attempt to stall or to undermine the need to bring finality to mango’s business rescue process.”
