Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and her Deputy Thandi Mahambehlala will today lead a delegation to the Cape Flats to assess the extent of the damage that the floods have caused.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc across the Western Cape, causing mudslides and floods in various informal settlements which has also led to road closures.

Ministry spokesperson, Hlengiwe Nhlabathi-Mokota, says Kubayi will visit various disaster-stricken zones in Khayelitsha, Nkandla, Zamimpilo and Kuyasa.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis will be part of the delegation. The floods have affected at least 15 000 people.

Meanwhile, Western Cape authorities say evacuation orders have been issued in Citrusdal and the Cape Winelands, with possible evacuations in areas in the Drakenstein Municipality.

Officials provided an update on the impact of the storm damage and the response of various agencies and departments since the series of cold fronts hit the province on Sunday.
