Africa’s greatest horse race and one of the major events on Durban’s social calendar, the Durban July, takes place at the Greyville Race Course in KwaZulu-Natal this afternoon.

It is expected to attract 65 000 visitors to the coastal city who will contribute hundreds of millions of rands to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The main race is at 4 PM and features 18 of the country’s top middle distance thoroughbreds, who will battle it out over 2 200 metres.
Three-year-old Green With Envy, who is unbeaten so far this year, is the favourite at odds of 9-to-2.
He will be ridden by Craig Zackey.
The others horses who are heavily backed are See It Again, Future Swing and Oriental Charm.
The total prize fund for the Durban July is R 5 Million, with R 3 Million going to the winner.
