The Hawks in North West have arrested a senior municipal official and her partner for alleged corruption.
The official reportedly awarded a tender worth R185 000 to her partner in 2018 to purchase eight laptops for the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality in Ganyesa near Vryburg.
The tender was reportedly awarded though the service provider charged the municipality more than all the bidders.
A spokesperson for the Hawks in North West, Lieutenant-Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula confirms the arrest.
“Upon receiving the funds, the alleged partner to the municipal official allegedly transferred money to a company belonging to her partner. The pair have been charged with corruption and will appear in the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 22,” he says.
