Hawks National Head, Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya says they are continuing to see a trend of security guards employed to move money being involved in Cash-in-Transit robberies.

He was briefing members of the media on Sunday morning on the progress and milestones achieved by his unit in the first quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.

Lebeya says 55 cases were reported in the first quarter and seven suspects died during the exchange of fire with the police.

Lebeya says up to 27 people were arrested for CIT-related robberies.

“These cases (include charges) such as conspiracy to commit CIT, unlawful possession of firearms and possession of suspected stolen property and hijacked vehicles used in CIT robberies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lebeya added that 19 convictions in eight CIT-related cases were secured during this period.
