Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister on Finance, Geordin Hill-Lewis is expected to give up his Parliamentary seat in the National Assembly soon in exchange for a councillor in the Cape Metro – to be elected Mayor.

Hill-Lewis is a former Chief-of-Staff in the office of former Premier,  Helen Zille.

His political activism in the DA started when he was studying at the University of Cape Town. Hill-Lewis has been a Member of Parliament for over a decade.

Hill-Lewis became the DA’s youngest member of Parliament in 2011.

The 34-year-old outgoing member of the National Assembly has been serving in Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance.

Hill-Lewis participated in various debates in the Assembly including the ones on the State of the Nation Address.

In August this year, Hill-Lewis accepted the nomination to become DA mayoral candidate for the city.

He will therefore resign as an MP to serve in the Cape Metro as election results show that the DA will win the City of Cape Town.
