The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has called on the government to increase the budget for traditional leadership. IFP Chairperson Blessed Gwala says this will ensure that traditional leaders have adequate resources to assist their people.

Gwala was speaking during a party supporters recruitment campaign in Giyani, Limpopo ahead of the general elections.

Gwala says part of their manifesto is to ensure financial support for traditional leaders and restoration of tribal land.

“We prioritise the role of traditional leaders, IFP has a role especially in KZN, the only province where kings own their land.”

Meanwhile, some party supporters say the IFP is a beacon of hope.

“I have joined IFP because I believe they will build us roads and create employment for us because most of our people are not working. They sit under the trees and do nothing,” says Aaron Mathebula.

Another supporter John Muchavi says; “We have been suffering as people of Limpopo but since IFP is here, we are hopeful that we will get jobs and IFP does not like corruption.”
