Indian Women’s Cricket team beats West Indies by six wickets in their Group 2 match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, West Indies set India the target of 119 for victory. India surpassed the target to register their second win of the tournament.

Captain Hayley Matthews was caught behind for two by Richa Ghosh off the delivery of Pooja Vastrakar in the second over.

Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle rebuilt West Indies. Their partnership scored 59 runs to take West Indies to 63 after 11 overs.

However, it was broken in the 14th over with Campbelle caught for 30 by Smriti Mandhana to leave West Indies on 77 for two.

West Indies soon found themselves on 79 for four after losing two wickets in quick succession. Taylor was trapped leg before for 42 while Chinelle Henry was run out for two.

Deepti Sharma removed Afy Fletcher for a duck in the 20th over to become the first Indian cricketer to reach the milestone of 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. West Indies reached 118 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.

Needing 119 for victory, India had a good start. Shafali Verma and Mandhana laid a solid foundation for India’s innings scoring 32 runs.

But India soon found themselves on 35 for two after losing two wickets in quick succession. Mandhana was removed for 10 and Jemimah Rodrigues for a single. Devyka Vaidya and Ghosh’s fifth wicket partnership took India over the line.
