The Jagersfontein Developments mine will hand over newly constructed houses to the mine dam wall collapse victims in Jagersfontein in the Free State today.
A mine dam wall collapsed on the 11th of September 2022 in the Free State mining town, leaving about 140 families displaced and claiming two lives and one is still missing.
Over 90 families have opted to have the mine rebuild and renovate their homes, while the rest are taking the legal route to have the mine reimburse them.
Free State Premier, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae says the handover of houses marks a significant milestone in efforts to provide relief and support to the victims of Jagersfontein.
With great joy & a renewed sense of hope, I am thrilled to announce that on Wednesday, 14 August 2024, we officially handing over homes to those affected by the Jagersfontein mudslide disaster. This journey has been challenging and complex. Nevertheless, victory is achieved pic.twitter.com/eNlrGvphtt
