The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has reacted with shock following the tragic death of one of its officers.

Tshepo Mabuselele died while on duty when he and another officer were conducting a routine roadside check on Malibongwe Drive.

It’s alleged that they attempted to pull over a white Hyundai H1 that failed to stop.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says in their pursuit of the vehicle, their patrol car was involved in a collision with another vehicle at an intersection, resulting in a fatal accident.

“The driver and passenger of the Mercedes-Benz were fortunately unharmed in the incident. A case of culpable homicide will be opened at Muldersdrift SAPS for investigation. The JMPD is deeply saddened by the loss of MPO Masubelele. His dedication and commitment to serving the City of Johannesburg will be sorely missed. We offer our unwavering support to MPO Mahwayi as he recovers from his injuries,” says Fihla.
