Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen will be visiting a community food garden in Durban’s Bluff area, where a group of women are growing crops on a piece of land.

If they produce more than they need, they are able to sell the surplus.

The party says his visit on Women’s Day is part of their efforts to tackle hunger and poverty in the country.

The DA says in a statement that promoting agriculture at a local level and providing people with the necessary skills is critical to sustaining communities.

Steenhuisen, who will be joined by local party leaders, will hand over seeds and tools while helping to build a water tank.
