Kraaifontein teen accused of assaulting his grandmother back in court

A teen who allegedly assaulted his grandmother at her house in Kraaifontein in Cape Town is expected to be back in court today.

He was arrested in July after a video of the assault on his 82–year–old grandmother went viral on social media. 

During a previous court appearance, 19–year–old Luvo Gqaza was provisionally released on warning with conditions. 

In the video, the elderly woman is seen falling to the floor and pleading with her grandson to be killed rather than to continue living a life of abuse while he continues to assault her.

He faces charges of assault and contravention of the Older Persons Act.
