Limpopo’s education department has clarified statements on an incident of an eight-year-old learner who fell into an enviro-loo latrine at the Lefatane Primary School in Botlokwa.

The department says its investigations have revealed that the Grade 2 learner did not fall into the latrine, but was only partially trapped in the latrine for a short while.

It is reported that he was pulled out by the school’s cleaning staff.

Department Spokesperson Mosebjane Kgaffe, says, “The department would like to put it on record that the learner did not fall into the pit latrine toilet, but rather partially trapped in an enviro-loo cover. The parents of the learner were called to school regarding the incident and ultimately, took the child to the nearest clinic for medical attention. The department can confirm that no injuries were reported. A safe school environment remains a priority for the department.
