South Africans are still reeling from the death of musician Kiernan Forbes, known as AKA, who met his untimely death last Friday.

The rapper superstar, also referred to as the Supa Mega, was tragically gunned down at Florida Road in Durban, together with his long-time friend, Tebello Tibz Matsoane.

With a music career spanning over a decade, the news of his untimely death has sent shockwaves to the country and the international community.

While we continue to reflect on his legacy and his contribution to music, here is a list of some of the awards AKA has collected in his music career spanning over a decade.

South African Music Awards (SAMA)

In 2012, Supa Mega bagged the following awards for his debut album, Altar Ego:

  • Best Street Urban Music Album
  • Male Artist of the Year

His second studio album, Levels, bagged him the Male Artist of the Year Award in 2015.

SA Hip Hop Awards

  • Most Valuable Artist in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015
  • Best Male Artist in 2012, 2014 and 2015
  • Video of the Year for single “Jealousy” in 2012
  • Video of the Year for single “Congratulate” in 2014
  • Best Collaboration for single “Run Jozi” ft K.O. in 2014
  • Best Digital Sales/Milestone -Three Gold Singles and Gold Album for Levels in 2015
  • Best Collaboration and Best Video for single “The Saga” ft Anatii in 2015
  • Best Collaboration for single “10 Fingers” ft Anatii in 2017

Metro FM Music Awards

  • Best Newcomer, Best Hip Hop Album, Best Produced Album for Altar Ego in 2011
  • Best Hit Single, Best Collaboration for single “Baddest” in 2015
  • Best Hit Single for “Jealousy” in 2016

MTV Africa Music Awards

  • Best Collaboration for single “All Eyes On Me” featuring Burna Boy, DA Les and JR in 2015

Africa Muzic Magazine Award

  • Best Male Southern Africa and Best Collaboration for “All Eyes On Me” in 2015

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards
