The parents of 16-year-old Machaka Radebe have expressed a slight relief over the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s decision to deny Ntlantla Jozi bail. Jozi is accused of kidnapping, extortion, and the murder of Radebe.

Radebe’s body was found in Phase 9 in Bloemfontein on 4 December last year, two days after she was reported missing.

The court found that the accused was reluctant to provide his correct home address. It has also deemed Jozi a flight risk, as he has failed to appear in another matter that is pending.

Machaka’s father, Sidwell Radebe, says this is one step in the right direction.

“To be honest, everybody reacted in an excited way to the denial of bail. It brought excitement to all of us; we were panicking about what was going to happen. What the outcome will be. Therefore, we are very excited. I know it is still in the bail phase; the trial is still coming, and that is when we will get justice, especially when he is convicted.”
