The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says he is available to lead the party for another term. The party will host its 11th-anniversary rally on Saturday at the AR Abass Sports Ground in Kimberley.

The EFF will host its People’s Assembly in December, where a new party structure will be elected.

Malema, who has led the EFF since its formation in 2013, says he is available to lead the red berets for another term.

“Yes, I am available, absolutely available. Anyone who comes to me, coming to ask me that question must know that the answer is yes. I will work for them to come. All I’m saying is that I always subject myself to the Democratic scrutiny of EFF structures and that democracy has worked for the EFF as we go to Celebrate 11 years of the EFF.”

New Secretary-General?

EFF MP and former National Spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has been endorsed by the party’s former student command President Mpho Morolane to lead the party as the new Secretary-General (SG).

Malema says while he has not heard of such a contestation, both Ndlozi and current SG Marshall Dlamini are some of the EFF’s best crop.

“Like I’m saying, whether you have Mbuyiseni or you have Marshall, you have your best. If there is going to be a contestation between the two it will be among the best of the best of the EFF. But I don’t see it happening shame. But you know conferences but I don’t see any kind of contest happening. But we will come back with whatever the conference gives us.”

VBS

Malema also weighs in on the VBS scandal where both he and his Deputy Floyd Shivambu were implicated by the bank’s former chairperson Tshifhiwa Matodzi.

Malema says VBS has been used as a swear word to insult the EFF.

“VBS to us is a swear word when they want to swear at us they say VBS. So they don’t genuinely mean it. You have Zweli Mkhize who asked for R2 million we are told by that sponsored affidavit. R5 million of that Communist Party that was asked by Jacob Mamabolo. The guy says in his own sponsored affidavit, I offered to donate to the EFF. He doesn’t say that the EFF came to ask me.”

Reflecting on the EFF’s 11th year of existence, Malema says the party has not only created a formidable organisation, but prides itself in advocating for land expropriation, insourcing, free education and holding the government accountable.
