Man allegedly sets girlfriend alight in Carolina, Mpumalanga

A 34-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting alight his 22-year-old girlfriend in Carolina, Mpumalanga.

The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday when neighbours heard the woman’s screams. Police say when the neighbours went to check they found a woman covered in flames while the suspect was pouring some flammable liquid on her.

The provincial police spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli, says the suspect fled the scene.

“The woman was taken to hospital where she’s fighting for her life. Police were alerted about the incident and a case of attempted murder was opened and investigated. A few hours later, the suspect was arrested hence he is appearing at Carolina Magistrate’s Court today, 22 August 2024,” Mdhluli adds.
