The 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of two children in Pienaar outside Mbombela, Mpumalanga has died. The accused was under police guard in hospital. It is alleged that members of the community assaulted him before he pointed out the bodies of Peaceful Khoza and Junior Mabandla.

The children aged three and six respectively have since been laid to rest. The accused was due to appear in court on Monday.

Mpumalanga Police spokesperson, Mangoseni Nkosi, “The suspect who was under police guard, was alleged to have taken part in the murder of two young children in Pienaar, a three-year-old and a six-year-old. He succumbed to his injuries while in hospital, yesterday before he was supposed to appear in court, on Monday, July 15. His untimely death has created problems for us as the police. Our investigating team was depending solely on his testimony to inform us what transpired with the two little kids. Unfortunately, now that he is no more, we will have some difficulties in the finalisation of the case.”
