A man has started to serve a life sentence after the High Court in Calvan in the Northern Cape found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend.
The court found 33-year-old Chrisjan Brandt guilty following a domestic violence incident which happened in November 2022.
Brandt reported the murder of his girlfriend to the police, claiming that she had died the previous evening after an altercation with an unknown woman.
Police investigations, however, revealed that Brandt had beaten his girlfriend Karin Klein to death with a piece of wood.
The provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers explains, “On Friday, 20 September 2024, Brandt was sentenced in the Calvinia High Court to life imprisonment on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. The Northern Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, reiterated that the policing and investigation of domestic violence-related crimes remains a priority for the SAPS in the Northern Cape.”
