Man sentenced to life for several rape incidents in Limpopo

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sibasa Regional Court outside Thohoyandou, for raping women at the University of Venda in 2018.

Forty-year-old Victor Madia targeted students between August and October 2018.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says Madia was on parole when he committed the offenses.

“The regional court of Sibasa sentenced Victor Madia, 40, from Tshakhuma to life imprisonment for raping an adult woman several times. Twenty years for each of two counts of rape and 10 years imprisonment for two counts of theft. Madia used to rape women at the University of Venda in Thohoyandou. The accused would threaten the victims with dangerous weapons and forcefully raped them in the bushes. Madia was released on parole when he continued to terrorize women.”
