Former African National Congress (ANC) Western Cape Chairperson Marius Fransman will contest this year’s election. He will do this with the group he leads, The People’s Movement for Change (PMC).

Fransman says the high unemployment rate, particularly among the youth and the crippling power cuts are some of the issues that need to be tackled head on, which he says has reached unacceptable levels.

The People’s Movement for Change has unveiled its leadership ahead of the elections. The leadership says it’s comprised of people from faith-based organisations, traditional leaders and civil society groups, with a common purpose of rectifying the injustices of the past.

“We are saying its time that those people that actually were there centuries ago that we call the first nation that we live to it and hence we are going to the Northern Cape to reclaim the Northern Cape for the first nation,” says Fransman.

Some members say they have been in the struggle for decades and have moved political homes several times due to differences. They’ve been with the now defunct National Party, the ANC, the DA, and the GOOD party among others.

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the injustices perpetuated in Gaza where tens of thousands of women, men and children and the aged are being indiscriminately killed stoned and made homeless by the actions of the careless occupying force whose action has been condemned by the ICJ,” Fransman added.

The PMC is optimistic about its performance in the upcoming general elections in the Western Cape, saying it will be the second largest party.
