African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has dismissed assertions that they were forced by big business to work with the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Government of National Unity (GNU).

This was compounded by reports of the strengthening of the rand and the appreciation of the markets when the governing party was about to clinch a deal with the DA.

Mbalula says the fact that they were influenced by capital was just an over-exaggeration. He says they differ sharply with business where the sovereignty of the state is compromised.

“There is an over-exaggeration about capital and those who own the means of production. Because we in the ANC, we understand our engagement with the capital. It is unity and struggle with the opposite. There are things we agree with Capital on. We want to create jobs so we need capital for the development of our nation and the creation of jobs. There are things that we don’t agree with like things that impact on our sovereignty and things like labour and the worker rights so the over ideological perspective that changes us into a communist party or socialist party is incorrect.”
