The Thohoyandou Children’s Court in Limpopo has postponed the trial of a learner accused of bullying a fellow learner at Mbilwi secondary school.

The matter has been postponed to Thursday due to the unavailability of an isiXhosa interpreter.

The interpreter is needed as the accused’s mother, who is her guardian, speaks isiXhosa.

The accused was depicted in a video that went viral, allegedly assaulting a fellow learner outside the school.

The victim Lufuno Mavhunga later committed suicide by overdosing on pills three years ago.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudi Malabi-Dzhangi says, “Minor offender of former Mbilwi secondary school has appeared in Thohoyandou children’s court. The matter is held in-camera as she was 14 years old when she committed the offense. She is facing a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.”
