Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is ready to oversee disciplinary proceedings at the Pretoria High School for Girls. This follows the suspension of 12 learners last week.

They are implicated in a controversy involving racial comments and complaints about black learners. Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says the MEC will ensure that appropriate action is taken.

“The Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will today Tuesday the 30th on July 2024 visit Pretoria High School for Girls following instances of suspects racism that resulted in the suspension of the 12 learners. The MEC will interact with the school management team and the SGB.”

The EFF, ANC and Young Communist League are some of the political parties that are demonstrating outside the school gate.

The learners were suspended over a week ago, following allegations of participating in a WhatsApp group that contained racial comments, micro-aggressions, and complaints about black students.

In anticipation of the disciplinary hearings, security measures have been heightened at the school, with increased police presence, including Nyalas patrolling the area.
