The Save South Africa Civic Movement has called on the Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane to consider racism allegations against the Pretoria High School for Girls staff, including the principal.

It is reported that there were complaints about black learners through a WhatsApp group comprising white learners.

Twelve learners have so far been suspended.

The movement’s spokesperson, Tebogo Mashilompane, says the behaviour of the accused learners is worrying.

“While Save South Africa Civic Movement is condemning the behaviour, the movement is calling for a three-pot leg approach that will first concentrate on the background of the children fingered in this issue. It is our understanding that children’s behaviour to a certain extent, is the reflection and representation of their parents.”

“We might be furious at the learners, only to realise that this is a learnt or taught behaviour. This is not to say the 12 are not guilty in their personal capacity as high school learners; they are guilty and must be disciplined, according to the code of conduct and there must be lessons learnt from the exercise.” – Reporting by Simphiwe Mabhena.
