The South Africa Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe weather conditions in Cape Town for Thursday.

The City of Cape Town Disaster Risk Management spokesperson, Mandy Thomas, says they are assessing the extent of damage that floods have already caused.

She says the City is appealing for donations to effectively manage the situation and mitigate the impact.

This follows persistent rainfall and gale force winds after another cold front.

Thomas says their teams are out in full force.

“So yeah, it’s across the City and our officials are doing the best that they can to unblock drains, let the gallies be free flowing. That kind of thing so that the water can dissipate.”

Meanwhile, the Barkly Pass on the R58 between Barkly East and Elliot in the Eastern Cape has been reopened.

The mountain pass was closed for almost 30 hours due to heavy snowfalls.

Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose says graders were used to remove the thick snow that covered the road surface.
