The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 3 699 new coronavirus infections in the country in the last 24-hour cycle, bringing the total number of cases to 2 864 534.
Three-hundred more people have succumbed to COVID-19 related complications.
This puts the total death toll at 85 302.
KwaZulu-Natal has the highest number of new infections at 932 followed by the Eastern Cape at 663 and the Western Cape at 633.
The number of recoveries stand at 2 688 692.

Meanwhile, pediatricians have welcomed the approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children.
They say the third wave has seen more children being infected by the virus.
They stress that COVID-19 vaccines are safe for children.
