EFF Johannesburg regional leader and councillor, Moshe Mphahlele has been buried at his hometown in Lebowakgomo, outside Polokwane in Limpopo. Mphahlele was shot and killed last Sunday in Alexandra during the removal of dwellers from COVID-19 temporary accommodation containers.

The preliminary autopsy report has revealed that Mphahlele was hit by rubber bullets and live ammunition.

EFF leader Julius Malema, while addressing mourners, described Mphahlele’s killing as a deliberate and calculated assassination.

“Under democratic South Africa, we still have our own children being killed with live ammunition, and Mphahlele was not killed during the protest. He was actually assassinated, because if you follow the story, they waited for him to be isolated. When he moved away from his people to go and negotiate with the authorities, they shot him when they knew there would not be any witnesses. Today, no one has been arrested. Moshe Mphahlele asked a simple question, ‘If you said these people did not have accommodations during COVID-19, did the end of COVID-19 give them accommodation? Why do you give them accommodation during COVID-19 and then after COVID-19, you evicted them as if COVID gave birth to accommodation?”
