Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has vowed to defend the National Health Insurance (NHI) against any legal challenges.

Recently appointed in the 7th administration, Motsoaledi made these comments on Morning Live.

The health bill, signed in May 2024, has faced opposition from various sectors, including the private healthcare.

Motsoaledi noted that while the Health Department won the first court challenge against union Solidarity, more cases are expected.

“When the Department started setting up structures and appointing people to take the issue of NHI forward because it was not there before there was no DDG in charge of NHI before and when he was put in and his staff came on board. Solidarity rushed to court and they lost that round. So, now we’re going to go for the second round and there’ll be many more they’ve told me,” Motsoaledi says.
